The CD-ROM offers various possibilities:
1. Users can search for filters with certain properties, entering information such as membrane material, sterilization type, surface area, ultrafiltration coefficient or producers. Search criteria can be modified throughout, thus giving an opportunity to refine the search at every step. Once the search process has been completed, a list of those hemodialyzers will appear which match the search criteria, providing an overview of what is currently available on the market.
2. Alternatively, one may set a target Kt/V and search for those dialyzers which are most suited to deliver the requested Kt/V with the patient parameters specified, thus enabling the physician to determine the best alternative available.
3. Once a hemodialyzer has been selected, a simulated dialysis treatment can be conducted by entering patient data, which will result in predicted urea kinetic values in terms of Kt/V.
4. In addition to the database proper, this CD-ROM also features extensive background information in the form of a preface, a detailed description and evaluation of the data presented as well as an article on the structure, design and biocompatibility of membranes and hemodialyzers.
